NEW! CAREER MOUNTAINEER Store

Since there has been a lack of companies hiring nationwide and our web-site has taking a toll in obtaining less and less advertisers, we’ve added a “new” section to our web-site “store”. It is store that is run directly though the Career Mountaineer web-site. (powered by Amazon). We search for the resources that we think are great options in helping others while they are searching for a career.  And this resource can help keep us open through this recession, crisis, whatever they are calling it these days! :)

Soon I will be updating this blog as well and other useful links will soon be found on our web-site as well.

I refuse to give up – besides graphic design and web-site work – this is what I was meant to be doing and it combines all of my skills!

Please continue to support us by placing your help wanted ads with us, continue to place and upload resumes (career seekers?  I know you’re out there!) and purchasing some hand picked products from our web-site.

Also, our Spring/Summer Newsletter will be available for viewing soon and e-mailed to customers and contacts.  As always, if you don’t want to receive, please e-mail us politely. (MUCH appreciated) We are simply just trying to stay in contact and feel we provide a valuable resource to employers and career seekers.

Best Regards,

Jennifer

Creative Resumes Land Jobs

If you’ve been discouraged in your job search, I can assure you, you’re not alone! You may be lucky enough to find a job listing in your specialty, that’s the first step, then you apply or send your resume and it’s the waiting game. Today employers have MANY resumes to sort through.

This brings me to a link and an image I want to show you to inspire you. I’m in the creative field and though I thought my resume was a bit different with b/w and a gradient design feature, I realize now that it now needs more!

You will see what I mean when you read Sam’s blog and see the following. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. CREATE that resume to be SEEN and not FORGOTTEN right away.  I’ll admit, at first I thought it was too much, but the more I got to thinking I could see this working in ANY chosen field. Can you imagine what you can do with a chef’s resume?  accountant? nurse? driver? construction?& so on?

I also want to point out that I do believe a photo can help.  On my career web-site you can upload photos which adds to the overall valued package your selling – yourself!   I’ve also been involved in other web-sites and suggest job seekers to also create their own blog, register on twitter or LinkedIn to network with others and create a presence.

Enjoy the link and/or resume below & start CREATING your resume.  BTW if you need help, feel free to contact me!

A special thank you to Sam (Sam he is!) for allowing me to share with others.

More Jobs Being Lost Daily

dsc04340Everyday the headlines seem to get worse and worse.  More jobs are being lost daily throughout the United States.  I’ll admit it, it is hard to stay positive and I truly wonder what is ahead for us because I can literally see & feel the tension amongst many people and businesses.

Last weekend was a pleasant weekend – outside that is – we went to the park, people were walking, friendly and it felt wonderful!

Yet, inside we went to several stores and it was a bleek feeling.  I could see many sales all over the place, many good deals, yet – I don’t think many are spending right now or can’t afford to.  We went to Target and sorry I hate to mention store names, but I feel I  have to.  Anyway, we spent maybe $20 some dollars, far less than usual and there was not as many staff working at all and the store manager was the one who was the cashier and said “thank you, we appreciate your business.”    I think my heart stopped for a moment. I felt horrible. Don’t get me wrong – it was pleasant & to be honest – that is the place I’ll go to next time for almost all my shopping because of this.  But, our family left and got to the parking lot and said how sad it was and it is like that all over the place, it really is that BAD. And it was that day we really realized this.

My example is of a “big box” store, so to speak.  And I want to make it clear that I’m all for small mom & pop stores & smaller businesses and I hope that everyone remembers to support local small businesses as well – if you need a “special” gift, I’m certain many have discounts and sales going on, so check them out as well.  Every business is going to need the support right now and probably well into the near future for awhile.  Many aren’t going to make it, but I hope they can someday start up again.

I’m one of them.  To publish a different newspaper in this Colorado area bi-weekly was wonderful, I truly enjoyed it and thought this was what I was meant to do and would do it forever.  Strong word – forever. Yet, that is how I felt.  I finally found something that utilized every skill I had and enjoyed it. Now things are different – no jobs, no newspaper.  I’ve expanded to be nationwide and on-line only hoping that would help and it’s a huge challenge – I can’t even give away advertisements.  I also always thought that if my sales were low I could work somewhere part-time at a store or something – well, again, not much luck – everyone is looking and there just isn’t enough jobs out there for everyone anymore.

So, if you’re looking for a job and/or career I suggest you stay on top of it. Update your resume – even adjust your resume and cover letter according to the position your applying for, make it stand out.  Follow up with them if they have a phone number making sure they received it.  It is going to be harder than ever to find employment right now.  And register with many job boards – and don’t forget ours!  I love our set up because you can include photos and it might seem new to many, but I believe it can help sell yourself and you are the product so to speak.  If you’re applying for chef’s position. Take a picture of self with chef hat on and include another professional picture, and maybe another one cooking in a kitchen.  It can make a difference!

So, I encourage all job hunters to submit their very best resume and portfolio.

I encourage all employers to spend wisely and consider advertising with us.

Have a great weekend – suggestion…. stay outside!! ha.

Watch for these consolidations later this year:

3.  3M will merge with Goodyear and become:
     MMMGood.

4.  Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota
     Mining will merge and become:

INTRODUCTORY OFFER – FREE Ads!

FREE – FREE – FREE!

TEST DRIVE TODAY!

Well, as you can see, my CareerMountaineer.com site is now up and running! I’ve been adding and testing things and will continue to do some more work on it, but for the most part, it is READY! yippeee!

I’ve decided to offer FREE Advertising til the end of January for all companies to give it a TEST DRIVE!  It is really easy to use – the ads displayed are great with your company logo and your other information you wish to include. You can see my example listed – and I’ll list a few more.

My concern now is that this is like starting over again!  (and the economy) But,  I will e-mail companies hiring to inform them of my web-site.  As always, anyone can ask to be removed, that is standard policy and I don’t like Spam either.  The reason I do it this way is to save time calling and eventually getting to the right person that handles advertising.  Another reason, I have a 2 year old!  :)  It seems when I do make calls, he is at his loudest.  But, in all reality, this will keep advertising rates LOW.  And the rates I’ve decided on are the BEST.

Anyone searching for work?  Register and upload your resume to be seen!

I encourage all past customers and new contacts to give it a try!  It is great for small to large companies and agencies – there is an advertising package for everyone!  That is one of the things that is so great about our new web-site and service!

When posting ads…. COUPON CODE: FREE

Happy Posting

FALLing Behind?

Well, I started Career Mountaineer One Year Ago!  I’m proud I published for one year!  However, we all know that the world is in a different place right now!  The effects it has created for us weren’t expected, though I see many businesses closing, selling, re-locating, as well as many homes for sale (that aren’t selling) and so on.   So, what are we to do?

For myself – at Career Mountaineer.  I can’t publish for awhile. Reasons…

* I need to get caught up on past payments and bills due.

* I need to find a new career to help support my family.

* The job market is tough right now and I find it very hard to get companies to advertise.

* I can’t seem to find qualified help to help me sell advertising to help stay afloat.

BUT, I do remain positive and have no doubt -we’ll be back!!  Maybe it will be less issues, maybe it will only be internet based – but we are exploring options right now to see what we can do to continue to remain active in our niche market.   We are open to any suggestions, so please comment!

For yourselves…

Whether you are looking to hire OR are looking for a job, I suggest to remain positive as well.  Everyone needs to do what they need to do and not FALL BEHIND – but LOOK AHEAD!!!  I hope changes whether good or bad will make everyone smarter in making hiring and employment decisions this upcoming fall/winter in SKI Country.

Thank you all for your support and as always, I will remain in contact with updates and future plans of Career Mountaineer.

Like, yourself – we want to be one of the best in the industry and invite you to join the many SUCCESSFUL companies that have placed ads with us.

September unfortunately looks like we’ll be canceling the issue due to lack of advertisements from companies.  Not exactly how I wanted my 1 year issue to go, but the job market is tough right now and this newspaper has greatly seen the effects, since we are newer and small.  BUT… we won’t give up and we have some plans…. BIG Plans & you’ll be hearing more from myself and hopefully some more talented individuals soon too!  So, check back OFTEN!! You’ll be SURPRISED!

We’re here to help with your advertising efforts… hope to hear from you soon!

Marketing for Career Mountaineer

It never seems to amaze me, actually it does.  Companies don’t know us – individuals don’t know us, and because we are selling advertising, we are solicitating?   It doesn’t matter if we CALL, E-MAIL, VISIT, OR MAIL – somehow we are considered slime I guess.   I don’t fully understand it and quite frankly it is making me want to quit the newspaper more and more because it is just rude.  YET,  I do know which companies I won’t use or suggest to anyone, since they were too good to be kind and considerate in the first place.

How is a fairly new newspaper supposed to establish customers?  Sit and hope the phone rings – I don’t know of any.  In fact, I don’t think any type of business sat back and did nothing to establish business.

Anyway, I have a lot going on right now, we have to be out of our house in 6 days with no where to go – maybe tenting it with  2 kids and 2 dogs (nice!), have a funeral to go to and need to try and get our house we are building closer to completion and I E-MAILED the Career Mountaineer deadline info.  Not that any other way ever gets a different response either.

So, since there is not a RIGHT way to market a Career Newspaper then does anyone want to purchase it and take over?? ha.   Though I’m very close to being serious.  I’m still trying to make it work and hire more staff that can handle the rudeness in the area – sometimes I think maybe it’s not because these companies are successful – maybe no one else wants or can work with these people!?! hmmm. I may be on to something.

At any rate – my customers are great – if not the best and they believe in me and I believe I can help them as well with the creative ads, distribution and more visitors to my web-site as well.   And… that is what keeps me going even with dealing with difficult companies that don’t understand my side of things.  Sorry if I offend anyone by contacting them and offering my services – that is not my intention.  I’m just a struggling newspaper looking for companies that are hiring so I can help other companies and to be noticed and recognized in having quality companies and positions listed!  And that… my friends… will help us the newspaper stay afloat, help more companies and colleges to join and promote working and education, and have a great resource to area job hunters.
